Body Found at Recycling Center
Workers make a gruesome discovery in trash they were recycling at an Asheville recycling plant.
Workers at the American Recycling Plant on Sand Hill Road, in Enka, discover a body in cardboard waste they were processing this morning.
Police say they were working on a cardboard recycling machine when the operator noticed something that looked like a body on a conveyor.
They shut down the machine and called police immediately.
Officers began their investigation and put up crime scene tape as they gathered evidence.
Workers say they were shocked at the discovery, but they also say they expected something like this to happen sooner or later.
They say the body may have been in waste dumped here as long as a week.
Charlie Netherton, employee, actually I kinda expected it, at some point, we ve made actually, jokes about it, before, one day we would find a dead body, and never thought it would be realized in actuality, it s a shocker, still.
Chris Runyans, he was in one of the piles, it could have been here a week, it could have been more, could have been less, because we have several trucks that come through here, from several different counties, Haywood, Buncombe, Swannanoa, and so forth.
