Many pencil artists get stuck in the "NO IMPROVEMENT ZONE" and languish their for years and there are two main reasons your drawings don't look as realistic as you would like.
They are the lack of contrast and the lack of contrasting textures. You'll never be able to make your drawings look better if you neglect either one of these.
You can have all the commonly known drawing elements down perfectly like, line, shape, proportions, and perspective and still end up with a drawing that lacks the realism you're going for.
