Hello and welcome to DRQ!
Music artists have come up with some really long songs. Some are well known, some are very obscure.
So, what is the longest song?
Here are a some of the longest songs. This is definitely not a complete list. I just picked a few from various genres that I thought would be the most interesting. If a song had multiple parts I combined them all for the full length. I do not endorse or recommend any of the songs mentioned in this video.
Also, I did not include any classical works on this list. I might just save those for a future episode.
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly is over 17 minutes long. Autobahn by Kraftwerk is over 22 minutes. Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd is over 26 minutes in length. The Ikon by Utopia is just over 30 minutes. Mountain Jam by the Allman Brothers Band is over 33 minutes in length. Light of Day, Day of Darkness by Green Carnation is just over an hour long. And Incantations by Mike Oldfield is over 1 hour and 12 minutes.
According to Guinness World Records. The longest officially released song is To Our Yes by PC III at a length of 1 hour 59 minutes and 54 seconds. It's designed to be background concentration music for studying.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!
There's a song called Longplayer that has been playing for over 15 years. It's a 1,000 year long musical composition by Jem Finer. It started playing at midnight on December 31st, 1999, and will continue to play, without repetition, until the last second of the year 2999. When it reaches that point it will start over.
BUT WAIT THERE'S POSSIBLY MORE!
There's another song called....that. I'm not even going to try to pronounce it. It's by a group called Bull of Heaven and is supposedly over 3 Quindecillion years long. Their songs consist of sound effects that are repeated over and over again. So, whether or not this qualifies as music I'll leave up to you.
