Prisoners shot dead, women 'gang raped': Inside the DRC prison break attempt
Female prisoners in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Makala prison have told Al Jazeera they were gang raped during an attempted prison break last Monday in which the government says 129 people were killed. Rights groups and prisoners say there are now 2,000 fewer inmates in the prison than before the incident. The government has promised an investigation but has shared little information about what happened.
