Digital Wellness: The Future of Student Well-being // Bien-être numérique : L’avenir du bien-être des étudiants
Presented by: Lisa Pender, Faculty, Sociology, Mohawk College
Since the beginning of the pandemic, students have been thrust into an online environment where they are dependent on technology to stay connected, study and socialize. Unfortunately, many students have been negatively impacted by the physical and mental effects of increased screen time, including aches and pains, increased sedentary behaviours, trouble sleeping, difficulty concentrating and increased isolation. As we transition to a post-pandemic education culture, digital wellness is emerging as an essential ingredient for student well-being and success. Digital wellness strategies aim to help students (and ourselves!) buffer the negative impacts of technology by cultivating self-awareness through a mindful approach to technology, resulting in improved productivity, concentration, focus and overall mental and physical well-being. This workshop will explore the burgeoning field of digital wellness and offer evidence-based strategies for building and maintaining a healthy relationship with technology in our always-on(line), tech-dependent world.
