A baby lowland streak tenrec (Madagascar hedgehog shrew) makes a wild sound. Stridulation is the act of producing sound, usually by rubbing two body parts together. Some of the most well-known insects that stridulate are the grasshoppers and crickets. It is believed that the lowland-streaked tenrec is the only mammal capable of stridulation, producing a high-pitched noise by rubbing together specialized quills on its back. This was a brave baby being filmed, followed closely by its mother. You can clearly hear the stridulation sounds, a very rare thing on film. This tenrec is endemic to Madagascar and found nowhere else on the planet.
