DIY Jointing Jig
Learn how to build a planer sled for face jointing. This planer sled jig will help you to flatten boards with a planer instead of using a jointer. Also if you are trying to joint boards wider than your jointer this planer sled jig will be perfect. With a planer sled, you can accurately face joint rough sawn lumber with your planer and flatten lumber perfectly. This can be especially useful for woodworkers that do not have a wide capacity jointer available for use. My jointer has a 6in capacity but my planer sled can flatten boards up to 11 inches wide. This planer jig is made from pine and MDF material and is a budget-friendly build. You can flatten all kinds of boards on this planer jig once you have it built and you will be surprised how flat you can get boards without a jointer! You can even customize the dimensions of this sled to fit your exact planner perfectly. Overall, If you need to flatten wide boards and do not have a large jointer this video will be very helpful to you! I have included free plans below so that you can replicate my planer sled design so you can accurately flatten boards.
