uploading this test as evidence that the block action that you perform to trigger a block-enabled combo can actually block and parry, which was a question that came from a commenter. this occurs at 0:44 against the draugr archer and again at 1:27.

sequence explained:

1. perform a throwaway preemptive primary 1. doesnt matter if this attack lands or not, although it will affect timing of the block window after the primary 1.
2. enemy attacks.
3. parry attack during the block reset window right after primary 1.
4. begin combo, in the first case, block-enabled primary extended combo, and in the second case, a secondary combo.

check the video at the end or below to see a detailed description and test of how to trigger block-enabled combos.

in theory, the purpose of doing this would be to get the primary 1 out of the way so that it doesnt waste time during the parry window and therefore allows you to get deeper into the higher damage attacks that occur later in a given combo. some of the knife combos are so long, they are difficult to fit in a parry window.

the timing on properly throwing away the primary 1 is unbelievably frustrating and unintuitive when trying to recreate. i dont recommend this as a strategy because there are simply too many variables, like knocking the enemy too far back with your primary 1 or parry, timing the primary 1 early or late, the difference in timing the block window whether you land or wiff the primary 1, etc. nearly impossible to make this a mainstay of your playstyle, but maybe someone out there can do it. it will occur naturally and occasionally in combat if you are performing a lot of block-enabled combos against multiple enemies, especially groups of archers like in this mob grinder.

as for the grinder itself - this is a naturally-occurring triple spawner, with 2 draugr and 1 skeleton spawner. i put a roof over it simply to negate the swamp wet effect.

swamp grinders are a great place to practice weapons and combos, while also gaining experience. use a low tier weapon, like flint knife and bronze sword, as these weapons swing identically to their later counterparts but have a lower stamina cost and take more hits to finish a kill, which helps you get deeper into a combo. remember that experience comes from hits, not damage, so more hits and lower damage is better. from 0-star skeletons up to 2-star draugr elites, you get a good mix of enemies.

i had a campfire at my previous spawner but i later realized it made the location raid-eligible because it counted as a 3rd "base structure." trolls destroyed the spawners at that location, due to their area damage.

0:00 mob grinder
0:43 block-enabled primary combo with parry
1:27 block enabled secondary combo with parry
