MiG-29 Soviet multi-role fighter
The MiG-29 is a Soviet multi-role fighter of the fourth generation, which was created as an airplane for gaining superiority in the air in a given combat area or in a small sector of the front. Its main task was to fight against enemy aircraft, to cover the rear facilities and clusters of troops from the air, to counter the enemy's air reconnaissance at any time of the day and in difficult meteorological conditions. In addition to defeating enemy air targets at small and medium distances, the aircraft can be used to strike ground and sea targets both mobile and stationary.
The first developments in the project of a light front-line fighter (LFI), then still a new generation, were launched in the late 60s of the last century. And the first flight of the prototype was made on October 6, 1977. The pilot-pilot - Alexander Fedotov - piloted the car. The pre-production aircraft was first noticed by US reconnaissance satellites in November 1977 and received the designation "Ram-L" (meaning the city of Ramenskoye - the place where the aircraft was first noticed).
Because of the delays associated with the loss of two prototypes in accidents, serial production was deployed only in 1982 on the basis of the Moscow plant No. 30 "The Banner of Labor". In August 1983, the first serial MiG-29B began to arrive at the air base Kubinka. The car successfully passed state admissions tests in 1984, after which its deliveries began to the front-line aviation units.
The aircraft is made on the basis of an integral aerodynamic scheme, with a low-winged wing, two-keel plumage and spaced engines. The glider is made mainly of aluminum alloys and steel, titanium and composite materials are also used. The chassis is three-axle, with single-wheel main and two-wheel front struts. Also, the fighter is equipped with a catapult seat - K-36DM.
The cockpit of the fighter was surprisingly spacious and covered by a large lantern, which provided the pilot with a larger view, in comparison with the western fighters. The dashboard of the fighter was almost identical to the one on the Su-27 heavy fighter, which made it easier for the pilots to switch from one car to another.
