This year’s “State of the Lake” report from @UCDavisTahoe explores how climate change is affecting lake clarity.
Though scientists measured some of the clearest conditions on record in Winter 2023 (91.9 ft), by summer, lake clarity was one of the worst on record (53.5 ft).
Heavy winter storms may cool the lake and contribute to clear conditions, but as the snow melts, excess sediment, alongside microscopic plants and algae, clouds the water.
