Isidora Zebeljan (1967) composed the sketch for piano Il Circo in 1993. According to musicologist and musician Borislav Cicovacki, this piece represents the experience of hearing a mechanical piano, which accompanies a circus act. Although the disrupted melody is passionate, full of unexpected slowdowns and tensions of expectations, nostalgic and enthusiastic and constantly marching toward its peak, its essence is, paradoxically, held within the constrains of playing an imaginary mechanical instrument, as if it was composed for the pianola. This amazing combination of disparate elements in an imaginative interaction of complementary opposites makes the music very exciting. Almost like passwords for those who have been initiated into the unique tender world of nostalgia and poetic sensitivity by two masters of Italian cinema, there is a quote of circus music by Nino Rota from the final scene of the film 8 1/2 by Federico Fellini, recognisable in Piu mosso of this piece by Isidora Zebeljan, and the fact that the title of her piece is in Italian. Il Circo was published by Universal - Casa Ricordi in 2007.
