Ranong province in the Andaman coastal area southern Thailand, is not only famous for the hot spring, but also emerging is water lily rafting. Where and how? Let's find out more from our special report

Stable and strong bamboo rafts equipped with life vests are seen taking tourists along the 'Naka' stream in Suk Samran district of Ranong province.
Ranong is situated on the upper west coast of the Andaman coast in southern Thailand, 568 kilometers from Bangkok. At this very location in Kana village visitors can closely appreciate nature under the activity 'Water Lily rafting' claimed to be the only one in the region.

Going along the stream, the rafts approach blossoming 'Water Lily' plants with a nice fragrant covering the water surface of Naka Canal.
Villagers like Chamni Uonkhao, Chair of Plen Prai Sri Naka Club, said they are so proud of the natural asset and named this distinctive plants 'Queen of Naka river'.

Water Lily is reportedly found only at a bordering village between Ranong and Phang-Nga province.

According to the Club's information, the plant grows only in clear and clean stream water, thus it can indicate good quality of water. Today the Water Lily is reportedly facing serious threats and becoming endangered. Bigger habitats are however still found in Naka village. Recognizing the imminent threat for the endangered plant, a group of concerned locals formed a Club in 2005 aiming to protect the canal 'Klong Naka' through the conservation of Water Lily habitats.

They decided to use tourism as a tool for natural conservation. Cruising along the 5 kilometre stream, the group enjoys the natural scene and a stop for lunch meals prepared in banana leaves. It's such a great feeling being part of the conservation program and at the same time enjoy amazing scene of white Water Lilies which we hope will be there forever.
