Song initially popularized in a recording by the band of Gus Arnheim (who co-wrote the lyrics) and his young vocalist Bing Crosby (listen here: • 1930 HITS ARCHIVE: It Must Be True - ... ). Bing also performed it in the Mack Sennett comedy short “Dream House.”
This track was also issued on Banner, Oriole, Perfect, and at least five other labels. The less commonly-seen “Mel-O-Dee” brand here is assumably related to the Mel-O-Dee Music Company, formed in New York in 1921, which was primarily a manufacturer of piano and automatic instrument rolls but did attach its name to a few commercial discs distributed for juke box play.
Transferred from 78rpm Mel-O-Dee 322-B - It Must Be True (Arnheim-Clifford-Barris) by Dan Ritchie & his Orchestra (Bob Haring), vocal by Dick Robertson, recorded in NYC March 4, 1931 .
