Bike Build: Specialized Diverge S-Works with SRAM AXS Mullet Setup

This documentation covers the setup of my Specialized Diverge S-Works, outfitted with a SRAM AXS mullet configuration for versatile performance across all terrains. This setup blends high-performance road and mountain components, ideal for adventure cyclists who demand precision, reliability, and comfort over mixed surfaces. Here’s a breakdown of the build.

Frame and Fork

• Frame: Specialized Diverge S-Works (carbon frame optimized for stiffness and comfort)
• Fork: Specialized FACT carbon with Future Shock 1.5 for added suspension, aiding in smoother handling on rough surfaces.

Drivetrain

• Groupset: SRAM RED AXS and XX1 Eagle AXS (mullet setup for optimal gear range)
• Rear Derailleur: SRAM XX1 Eagle AXS (1x12-speed, ideal for gravel and rough terrain)
• Cassette: SRAM XX1 Eagle 10-52T (provides a wide gear range, allowing easy climbing without sacrificing high-speed capability)
• Crankset: SRAM RED AXS, 172.5mm (lightweight, high-stiffness crank arms for efficient power transfer)
• Chainring: 42T SRAM X-Sync 2 (compatible with SRAM AXS and tuned for improved mud clearance and chain retention)
• Chain: SRAM RED 12-speed

This mullet setup merges a road-oriented crankset with a mountain-compatible rear derailleur and cassette, delivering an optimal gear range without the complexity of a front derailleur.

Cockpit and Controls

• Handlebar: Redshift Top Shelf Handlebar with 70mm rise (enhances control and comfort, especially on technical terrain)
• Handlebar Grips: Redshift Cruise Control Drop Grips (ergonomically designed for comfort on long rides, reducing hand fatigue)
• Shifters: SRAM RED eTap AXS (wireless shifters, offering precise, reliable electronic shifting)
• Stem: Specialized Future Stem (designed to integrate with the Future Shock, improving handling and comfort)

Seatpost and Saddle

• Seatpost: Redshift ShockStop Suspension Seatpost (provides up to 35mm of suspension travel, reducing vibration and impact on rough surfaces)
• Saddle: (Optional based on rider preference, e.g., Specialized Power Saddle or Infinity Seat E1)

The Redshift ShockStop Suspension Seatpost complements the bike’s Future Shock system, providing additional comfort on rough terrain by absorbing shocks and reducing rider fatigue.

Wheelset and Tires

• Wheels: Zipp 303 Firecrest (lightweight and aerodynamic carbon wheels designed for mixed terrain, offering excellent handling and durability)
• Rim Depth: 45mm (ideal balance between aerodynamics and stability)
• Tires: (Recommended 700x42mm or similar gravel tires for maximum traction and versatility. Tire model depends on preference, such as Specialized Pathfinder Pro for multi-surface grip)

The Zipp 303 Firecrest wheelset provides excellent rolling efficiency and low weight, making it suitable for fast-paced gravel adventures and road segments.

Brakes

• Brakes: SRAM RED eTap AXS hydraulic disc brakes (with SRAM rotors, 160mm front and rear, for powerful and consistent braking)

The hydraulic disc brakes ensure reliable stopping power, crucial for variable conditions and steep descents.

Optional Add-Ons

• Top Shelf Handlebar Bag: Ideal for carrying essentials, mounting directly to the Top Shelf Handlebar with secure top and bottom straps. The magnetic lid allows for easy single-handed access, with internal stash pockets and a padded phone pocket.
• Bike Computer Mount: Mount compatible with Garmin and Wahoo devices, positioned just in front of the stem on top of the handlebar bag, keeping data easily viewable.

Assembly Notes

1. Drivetrain Setup:
• Carefully adjust the rear derailleur to ensure smooth shifts across the full cassette range (10-52T).
• Set chain length according to SRAM’s specifications for a 1x setup with the XX1 Eagle derailleur and 52T cassette.
• Confirm that all electronic components (derailleur, shifters) are paired via the SRAM AXS app for accurate, wireless shifting.
2. Cockpit Configuration:
• Adjust the Redshift Top Shelf Handlebar and Cruise Control Drop Grips to a comfortable position. The 70mm rise is ideal for a more upright and comfortable position.
• Secure the Redshift ShockStop Seatpost with proper torque specifications and adjust the suspension preload to match the rider’s weight and riding style.

Conclusion

This Specialized Diverge S-Works build with a SRAM AXS mullet setup and Redshift components is a versatile and high-performing bike, ready for long-distance gravel adventures, rough trails, and fast-paced road rides alike. With carefully selected components like the Zipp 303 Firecrest wheelset, Redshift ShockStop Seatpost, and SRAM XX1 Eagle cassette, this bike is built to handle any terrain comfortably and efficiently.
