Three times Israel and Palestine fought in the bloodiest way. In 1948, Palestine tried to prevent Israel's independence by sending armies into the region. This resulted in tens of thousands of casualties and a major refugee crisis for Palestine. The six day War was the most important war for Israel. After being denied free passage on the Tiran river, Israel made huge advances on all warfronts, taking control of many regions, including Gaza. The most bizarre conflict was the children's war in 1987, which began with Palestinian civilians throwing stones at Israeli soldiers and quickly ended with thousands of casualties on the Palestinian side. Peace was made six years later, but the conflict remains unresolved to this day.
