Lately I've been trying various ways of getting polyphony out of my Eurorack system. I purchased Qu-Bit Chord v2 on a bit of an impulse (it was on sale 😓) but I haven't used it much and, frankly, I'll probably end up selling it.
Chord seems like a great module but I find the various modes to be confusing and the sound of the bare wavetable oscillators is not immediately inspiring.
This patch was my attempt to find something of interest in Chord. I dabbled around for a while with some boring paraphonic chords before realizing I should play to the module's strengths and use the individual note outs. I sent the root note out through Magneto while the 3rd and 5th are filtered and hard-panned left and right. This does give a bit more separation to the mix and is a pretty cool feature vs. a more immediate chord module like ringified Elements.
Static wavetables sound pretty boring to my ears so I tried, somewhat unsuccessfully, to add modulation. The yellow trace on Data shows a slew-limited sample and hold that interpolates between waveforms while the blue trace shows a somewhat random LFO from Quadrax that changes chord voicing, causing random glitchy notes. Both of these modulations are a bit awkward and I think I can do better next time.
Not a great session in terms of the end result, but I came up with some ideas that I think I can iterate on in future sessions. Who knows, maybe I'll end up keeping Chord around after all.
