Oh, how I love making mediocre song covers instead of working on long-overdue school projects! In all seriousness though, I have been wanting to make a cover of this song for quite some time now, but I was just so intimidated by the idea of covering a John Mayer song that I kept putting it off. I eventually decided to let go of that fear entirely and sing it anyway, since it wasn't like I was competing with anyone or something like that; I was just doing it for me, and isn't that what music — and by extension, all forms of art — is all about?
Anyway, although it's definitely one of Mayer's less musically technical pieces, I'd personally argue that it's one of his most emotional pieces, and that's probably why I resonated with the song so much when I heard it for the first time. I found myself having another bout of emotional resonance a year later after an incident in my so-called "lovelife," and it was then that the song cemented itself as one of my favorite John Mayer songs (of which there are certainly too many, but believe me, this stands out). I hope you come to love this song as much as I do.
