Police officers, priest killed in attacks on churches and synagogue in Russia's Dagestan | ABC News
At least 15 police officers and an Orthodox priest have been killed in coordinated attacks on a synagogue, a Makhachkala police station and two churches in the southern Russian republic of Dagestan. Russian state media has reported at least four of the attackers were shot dead in ensuing gunfights in the North Caucus region. Moscow's National Anti-Terrorism Committee has labelled the attacks a 'terrorist' operation. Deakin University lecturer Greg Barton says there is a sense of disaffection towards the Kremlin and a history of the Islamic State sewing disorder in the state.
