From Chaos to Clarity: Defining Palliative Care & Hospice Across the Trajectory of Dementia

The trajectory of illness that a person living with dementia will follow is often long and winding. Where along that trajectory can palliative care offer support and guidance? How does palliative care differ from hospice? And just what is hospice now that you mentioned it? Dr. Gallagher will review the differences between palliative care and hospice and reveal how expansive a person’s palliative care team can be when one considers care from this interdisciplinary perspective.
Dr. Gallagher is the Medical Director of the MGH/Mass General Brigham Home Based Palliative Care Program and joined the MGH Division of Palliative Care and Geriatric Medicine in 2014 to help develop the Program. Prior to joining MGH, Dr. Gallagher was a member of the Divisions of Palliative Care and Hospital Medicine at UMass Memorial Medical Center. She served on the in-patient palliative care consult team, as a senior ward-attending hospitalist and as the Hospice Medical Director for UMass Memorial Home Health and Hospice.
