Santorini, whose shape today resembles a crescent, was once a round island and was called Strongyli. When, after sweeping geological changes, its central part collapsed, the #Cycladic #civilization began to flourish. As you can easily see, Plato's references to Atlantis bear a resemblance to the #ancient form of Santorini. A Brilliant and blessed place because of the civilizations that flourished in these soils and perhaps cursed due to the vast natural catastrophe. Many centuries ago Pyrgos had walls and a single entrance, the kastelloporta. Through a special construction the locals could pour hot oil on the enemies who were trying to invade. This building, which does not exist today, was called a loophole or killer. And in this castle there was a system of underground galleries which served to protect and escape the inhabitants in time of need.
