Let the Record Show – the crate-dug interview series in which musicians, DJs, rappers, and producers discuss their favorite songs of all time as the tracks spin on vinyl – has reached its monumental 50th episode. In a “Director’s Commentary” special edition, producer J Boogie represents Bay Area label OM Records, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year with the four color, quadruple vinyl compilation album "25 Years."
Taking us through select tracks on the album, J Boogie pulls the curtain back on the history of the label, where he has released his J Boogie Presents Dubtronic Science series since 2003. J recounts how the label birthed the career of electronic DJ superstar Kaskade, who at one time worked there designing party flyers, before releasing his own music through their distribution channels. They also touch upon the migration of indie hip-hop heroes People Under the Stairs to the label, examining the new Vinyl Me, Please reissue of their 2002 album O.S.T. Additionally, tracks from Mark Farina, Ming & FS, and J Boogie himself are also discussed.
J Boogie’s appearance on Let the Record Show marks the 50th episode in the series and the fifteenth episode of Season 4. Guests on previous episodes this season have included J-Zone, Cut Copy, Blu & Exile, Sofi Tukker, The Free Nationals, R.A. The Rugged Man, RJD2, Little Brother, Cam O’bi, Dudley Perkins, YehMe2, Rittz, SNAILS and Malik. Let the Record Show will continue with episode 51 featuring Mat Zo.
