So there’s an entity called the "Entrepreneur Online Network” ( who I can’t seem to find any info about online ) which claimed ownership of a clip I use at the end of one of my tutorials. The clip is from a Steve Jobs interview ( you know, the guy who started Apple, the one who said “Good artists copy, great artists steal […] we [Apple] have always been shameless about stealing good ideas” ...that guy ). So now YouTube put ads on my video with all the revenue going to the "Entrepreneur Online Network”.
So I work real hard to put together free tutorials for folks and now there are ads making money for this company ( which appears to be a copyright troll, which is a company that doesn’t produce any work themselves but instead just buys the rights to media content from others simply so that they can go after folks re-using it and make money off them, often through litigation ).
It’s pretty discouraging, which is ironic, because the whole point of copyright was to incentivize cultural producers ( like myself ) to make stuff that could enter the public domain… instead we’ve got perversely long copyright terms ( seems like nothing enters the public domain these days ) discouraging folks like myself to make work in the vernacular of our time ( wwweb/remix/etc )… Jefferson would be rolling over in his grave.
