This video using Microsoft Excel to calculate the distance between two cities based on their latitude and longitude. It uses radians(), pasting with the transpose option, the functions acos(), sin() and cos(), as well as a variety of absolute addressing cell references in the calculation. We start with a list of cities and their latitude and longitude in degrees. We use the radians() method to convert from degrees to radians since trigonometric functions in Excel work on data in radians. We use paste with a transpose option to attain another copy of the cities -- the original extending down rows and the copy extending across columns. Then we are in a position to enter a formula for the distance between cities that uses acos(), sin(), and cos(). The formula uses a variety of absolute addressing: $C$8 (keep both row and column fixed when copying) versus $C8 (keep row fixed) versus C$8 (keep column fixed).
