Welcome to @PhysioMedics. In this video, we are going to discuss warning signs of low blood pressure | Low Blood Pressure Symptoms.
Low blood pressure, also known as hypotension, occurs when the force of blood against the walls of arteries is abnormally low, resulting in inadequate blood flow to organs and tissues throughout the body. There are several underlying causes of low blood pressure, including dehydration, which can occur due to insufficient fluid intake or excessive fluid loss from vomiting, diarrhea, or sweating. Blood loss from trauma, surgery, or internal bleeding can also lead to a sudden drop in blood pressure. Heart conditions such as bradycardia (slow heart rate), heart valve problems, or heart attack can impair the heart's ability to pump blood effectively, contributing to hypotension. Endocrine disorders like thyroid dysfunction or adrenal insufficiency, as well as severe infections such as septicemia, can also cause low blood pressure. Additionally, certain medications, including diuretics, alpha blockers, or medications for hypertension, can lower blood pressure as a side effect.
Signs and symptoms of low blood pressure can vary but often include dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when standing up suddenly from a seated or lying position, fainting (syncope), blurred vision, nausea, fatigue, and confusion. In more severe cases, individuals may experience pale, clammy skin, rapid shallow breathing, and even shock, where inadequate blood flow seriously compromises organ function.
Treatment for low blood pressure depends on identifying and addressing the underlying cause. Mild cases, such as those caused by dehydration or medication side effects, may be managed by increasing fluid intake or adjusting medications under medical supervision. For more serious cases due to heart conditions, infections, or other medical issues, treatment aims to stabilize blood pressure levels and address the primary condition through medications, lifestyle changes, or other medical interventions. Regular monitoring by healthcare professionals is essential to prevent complications and ensure optimal management of low blood pressure.
