Celebrating the current D:Ream best of album collection The Best Thing, UK house uber-producer & DJ, Mark Knight grabs D:Ream’s 90s anthem Things Can Only Get Better for a 2023 dancefloor shake-up.
Taking the timeless vocals from Things Can Only Get Better and some of the key organ and piano instrumentation, Mark Knight adds a bubbling 80s disco meets New-Order-esque bassline, synth pads & stabs to create a truly unique but anthemic remix, perfect for the current world mood.
Peter Cunnah and Al Mackenzie, a.k.a. D:Ream are probably best known for their hits Things Can Only Get Better and UR The Best Thing, or that they had a famous scientist play keyboards for them!
However, there is so much more than that to discover. They have had two UK Top 10 albums: 1993’s D:Ream On Vo1 and 1995’s World plus ten Top 40 singles. Things Can Only Get Better was no.1 for four weeks in 1994 then was famously co-opted as the anthem in 1997 by Tony Blair’s Labour Party, writing D:Ream into English history; pop, political and otherwise!
New album The Best Thing is a collection of these hits, remastered from the original 2” tapes. Also included are unreleased live versions of tracks from their 1995 Shepherds Bush Empire gig, four unreleased demos including the original instrumental version of Things Can Only Get Better, two newly commissioned remixes from Mark Knight and Illyus & Barrientos and finally some re-found unreleased remixes from the archive by Sasha, Leftfield, MK, Sure is Pure and Joy.
