This is for everyone I'm missing right now, and for everyone you're missing.
During this health crisis, I've really been missing my friends. But even deeper than that, I've been realizing how deeply dependent I am on others for my emotional health. This realization has been a GOOD thing for me. My ego tries to tell me I don't need anyone else – I can do everything myself, I'm self-sufficient, self-motivated, secure, etc... But a few weeks of forced quarantine has me desperate for connection.
I think feeling loneliness is a part of what it means to be a human being – the ache proves we are connected to each other. And the more we love someone, the more it hurts when they're not there – especially when you're powerless to do anything about it.
When I was singing this song I was thinking about my friend Diego, my dad who passed away in 2001, my family spread across the country, my beautiful dance angel friends, our queen ROBYN (of course), a few other special friends, and probably YOU, if you are reading this :-)
So this is for you – I wish I could hug you right now and never let go. I hope this song is like a kiss on the cheek for you. We can make it through this. Let's rage extra when we get back together.
