“I’ve never heard of him”: that was the Leader of the Opposition’s response to whether he felt businessman Lawrence Ellis would give him a run for his money in the Mesopotamia division. Two weeks ago, Ellis submitted his standard bearer application to the People’s United Party in hopes of challenging Barrow in the division in the next general elections. Since then, Ellis has begun to campaign in the area and says he believes the PUP will be able to win over voters from the area, which has been a historic stronghold for the UDP. But, according to Barrow, his name doesn’t ring a bell in the area.
