This is about Manchesters UMIST Sackville building. The UMIST building situated in Manchester was part of the Manchester University. UMIST stands for University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. The building is an iconic building in manchester dominating Sackville street. It also has the Godlee observatory on the top. The building is a wonderful example of Edwardian architecture. built in 1902. It used to receive steam heat from the Bloom street power station. We look at the building from basement to roof. There are tunnels under the UMIST building. The Sackville building has its roots in the 1824 mechanics institute. One of the founding fathers of the mechanics institute was John Dalton. One of Manchester Universities famous sons. John Dalton is also the father of modern chemistry. The building is stood on the former site of Sir Joseph Whitworths engineering works. The home of spinning and dyeing Manchester also taught the world at the UMIST university
