A block device is a handle to the raw disk.
Such as /dev/sda for a disk or /dev/sda1 for a partition on that disk.
A filesystem is layered on top of the block device in order to store data. You can then mount this.
Such as mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/somepath.
*DAS*: data blocks and file system are directly attached to your PC - basically almost the same like any external hdd or flash drive
*NAS*: data blocks and file system are stored remotely - computer sees the volume like any other network device
*SAN*: data blocks are stored remotely but the file system is in your pc - computer sees the volume as if it was a disk drive installed internally. but the data is actually stored remotely.
