Cyberpunk 2077 currently has one of the most nebulous roadmaps out there, which says that free DLC will be out some time in the first half of the year, while the next-gen versions of the game will be out in the second half. This includes a number of hotfixes and patches along the way, including the 1.2 patch which is supposed to be dropping before the end of this month, possibly as soon as tomorrow. But I wanted to talk about what I am “expecting” from Cyberpunk 2077’s free DLC, based on what we saw from CDPR’s free Witcher 3 DLC. Everyone remembers the big expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, but before that there was free DLC that was much, much smaller in scale, which is what Cyberpunk is going to be giving us first. If it ever makes it to big, paid DLC releases at all. To recap, here’s what The Witcher 3 offered as free DLC back in the day:So, it’s easy to see how a lot of things can directly translate into Cyberpunk free DLC. I am expecting some new amount of cosmetics, be they new clothing sets or hopefully, the addition of cosmetic cyberware, something modders have already introduced on PC where you can get new limbs or faceplates or things like that for greater customization. We also obviously need some simplistic things like the ability to have a barber, tattoo shop or plastic surgeon to change your appearance after the character creator. I can easily see them selling that feature as “free DLC” even though it clearly should have been in the game from the start. I would predict at least a few new weapons for players to find, though whether they’re specific legendaries or a new class of weapon, I’m not sure. One thing The Witcher 3 didn’t have that Cyberpunk will probably add more of is new cars, given that there’s plenty of opportunity to add new ones players can save up for. I will be amazed if they don’t do new looks for NPCs, specifically Panam and Judy, who the fanbase is obsessed with, though perhaps River and Kerry and Johnny too, if they want to be a little more equitable. They didn’t seem to care about only giving new looks to the ladies in The Witcher, though. I can see Cyberpunk 2077 doing New Game Plus, although the problem with that is that the game is easy enough as it is, so re-doing the whole thing with full gear and cyberware and skills would amplify that problem. I think they need to rebalance the difficulty curve, if not add an entirely new difficulty level on top of the max it already has. And in lieu of (or in addition to) New Game Plus, we need the ability to reset side missions or crime encounters just so there’s still something to do on the map if we want to keep playing. Finally, yes, I’m sure there will be new missions. The free missions that The Witcher 3 had were not terribly in depth for the most part, and I would not expect to see any above some of the lower tier side missions Cyberpunk has had so far. New contracts and things like that.
