Dave Asprey tells how John Kellogg prevented people from masturbation because he believed that sex is harmful.
John Harvey Kellogg, who invented cereal in the late 19th century, originally intended it as a "healthy, anti-masturbatory breakfast." A celibate physician, Kellogg believed sex was harmful and saw masturbation as even worse, attributing numerous ailments to it. He advocated for a plain diet to reduce sexual urges, leading to his creation of bland cereals like corn flakes.
He also developed harsh methods to prevent masturbation, such as using carbolic acid on girls and silver wire for boys. Kellogg's brother later added sugar to the corn flakes, sparking a long feud between them.
