If you're on a mac, you can easily share audio and MIDI between apps, such as your DAWs or standalone synths (like vcv modular) you might have.
That means you can user your primary DAW, the one the workflow of which you like the most, to record and edit your MIDI clips quickly and easily, have that MIDI information picked up by another sound-generating piece of software, and have that audio stream capture back in your original DAW! It's a bit like being able to use pretty much anything as a virtual instrument in your DAW if you think about it!
And the best part? It comes at absolutely no cost! All you need to do is activate the IAC MIDI driver which is already on your mac and install Existential Audio's Blackhole audio driver, which is free.
The two apps I'm gonna be connecting are Ableton Live, my DAW of choice, and GarageBand, which comes pre-installed on any macOS.
