How to sew the insulation
Hello, I want to share with you my secrets and tips on how to sew outerwear, or rather how to sew the insulation to the pieces of clothing.
I sew insulation on both the lining and the face - it only matters when the design of the product requires it.
Different thicknesses of insulation are designed for different temperatures - this thick one I will sew on a winter jacket designed for temperatures down to minus thirteen degrees
this thin insulation can be taken down to temperatures of twenty-three — forty-one degrees
The thinner the insulation, the easier it is to work with
And the thicker it is, the more difficult it is to sew.
Let's try sewing on a serger - I'll show you different options
Thin insulation gives a thin seam and a good connection of the pieces, look how thin you get a seam when connecting the pieces, there is no any discomfort
You can not sew on the thick insulation with a serger, but even if you can do it, then you will have problems with connecting the pieces in the future.
Let's go to the sewing machine, I fold the piece in half and sew as if it were a jacket piece. You can see that the seam is very thin and does not interfere.
Now I will sew a thick puffy insulation to the upper piece - I sew close to the edge, cut off the excess, and fold the piece in half imitating the seam on the jacket, I mean two layers of fabric.
You can see how thick the seam is, and if we sew the insulation with the serger you can't remove the extra thickness of the insulation in the seam, as the serger stitch will not allow you.
I cut a piece of insulation larger than the piece of the jacket (sleeve is shown in the video), the additions on the edges of about two inches and sew on the perimeter of the piece close to the edge of the piece.
While sewing, I straighten the piece so that everything will stay in place, you can fix the edges with pins, but not in the middle, because they leave holes in the fabric.
I cut off the excess insulation, it will be useful for stuffing the toys.
This is how I sew the insulation to the pieces of the future jacket.
