Lecture 2: Scalars, vectors and tensors - most general definition
This is the 2nd lecture of the NPTEL course “Newtonian Mechanics with Examples” by Shiladitya Sengupta, Dept. of Physics, IIT Roorkee. We introduce the most general definition of scalars and vectors using the principle that laws of physics should not depend on the choice of coordinate system. We introduce tensors at a very basic level. There are some pleas to students to pay attention to notations and units carefully, while writing answers.
