Mod Components are a rare material in Destiny 2, and one that you want to stock up on heading into Season of Opulence. Mod components are used to purchase mods from Banshee 44 and ADA-1. There are 3 main ways to get mod components.
1.) Break down an existing mod; this will give you one mod component, and isn't recommended unless you have an abundance of a specific mod.
2.) Purchase directly from ADA-1; this will cost you 25 gunsmith materials and 3 legendary shards for a single mod component. It is a steep price to pay, and I don't recommend it unless as a last resort.
3.) Dismantle weapons and armor; this is by far the best method. Purchase blue weapons from your collection, and dismantle them. The best to acquire are weapons obtained from adventures, such as Lionheart Auto Rifle and Harsh Language Grenade Launcher, because when dismantled these give you back more materials than regular blue. You will get 1 mod component for every 8-10 that you dismantle.
