Famous around the world as the Boston Green Head on account of its gray-green hue, this portrait of an Egyptian priest, one of the icons of the MFA’s Egyptian collection, has a fascinating history that takes us back to one of the most famous archaeological discoveries of the nineteenth century. Although we do not know his name, he has a fascinating story to tell, full of strange and interesting characters he met on his way to the MFA, which also reflects changing perceptions of Egyptian art.
