Microsoft researchers have developed a model called VALL-E. In this system, which they define as "neural codec language model", they used the "EnCodec" technology announced by Meta in October 2022. Normally, "Text to Speech systems", that is, systems that convert text into sound, do this by manipulating sound waves. Vall-E starts by analyzing the human voice. It transforms this information into tiny components called "tokens" that are separate from each other with the help of EnCodec.
The artificial intelligence part is next. It tries to predict how a newly written sentence can be read using machine learning in order to produce a 3-minute speech from a 3-second human voice. The more information you input, the more accurate this prediction becomes.
