The Pensacola Museum of Art is housed in a former jail, replacing the bars and uniformed jail guards with paintings and sculptures by renowned artists like Picasso, Dali, and Warhol, a world-class glass collection, and exhibits of African art. Fort Barrancas gives visitors the chance to see what life was like for soldiers stationed there throughout the 1800s with its well-preserved military features.
At the Pensacola Lighthouse and Maritime Museum, you can climb the stairs of a functioning lighthouse and learn the history of the US Coast Guard. This coastal city doesn’t disappoint when it comes to shopping and dining things to do in Pensacola either! Wander the boutiques of Palafox Street to pick up clothing, souvenirs, and handicrafts, stop for a coffee at one of the many trendy cafes and then head to Casino Beach or Navarre Beach to dine at the water’s edge. After dinner, catch a show at the stunningly renovated Art Deco era Saenger Theatre. Do you prefer to spend your vacation in nature? Nearby Pensacola is some of America’s most remote and picturesque nature preserves—the Gulf Islands National Seashore and Naval Live Oaks Nature Preserve among them.
Closer to the city is the James P Morgan Park & Botanical Gardens, the perfect spot to set out a picnic blanket for lunch while you learn about local flora and fauna. If you want to get up close and personal with sea turtles, stop in at the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center. This is just a sample of the things to do in Pensacola for visitors worldwide.
