This Japanese bronze mirror (late 19th century) was found to exhibit rare 'magic' qualities. When light is reflected from the (apparently smooth) front surface, an image of the moulded design on the back is formed on a wall or screen. For this next experiment, the mirror was placed in a pressure box (reflective side pointing out), and the image projected was found to increase in size considerably as soon as the pressure was increased very slightly. The delineation also improved considerably. This surprising effect helps us to understand how the 'magic' image is formed. (Details in a forthcoming publication). Note: Japanese mirrors of this type had a handle - the one on this example had broken off.
