Welcome to the wild heart of Sussex! In this video, we take you to the Knepp Estate Rewilding Project to witness the amazing spectacle of the fallow deer rut. Each autumn, these beautiful creatures engage in an extraordinary ritual, as males vie for dominance and the chance to mate.
The Knepp Estate, once traditional farmland, has become one of the UK’s leading rewilding projects. Since the early 2000s, it has transformed into a thriving landscape teeming with native wildlife, from rare butterflies and nightingales to roaming herds of free-living deer. Here, the fallow deer are part of a unique ecosystem where nature is allowed to shape itself, creating a dynamic environment that supports an incredible diversity of plants and animals.
