Halo (by Dave Grohl) piano+vocal cover by Andrew Emery
This is the most challenging piano plus vocal piece I have attempted to date. I wrote a simple piano arrangement for it in 2017, but kept evolving the arrangement to the current form. I mark the version as 'take 4', but in reality it is closer to take 24. I experimented with tempo, structural variations, multiple variations for verse and chorus accompaniment, and whether I would perform it with a click track. I eventually did use a click track as I found my tempo was always way faster at the end. As a last point, I chose to mix the piece without any vocal reverb, but there are some overdubbed vocal harmonies with pitch shift and reverb.
