G'day everyone,

This is part 3 in the cross slide rebuild series. In this video my goal is to finish the main cross slide. That will leave the solid tool post for next week.

The main part of this video will be about remaking the lathes cross slide leadscrew. This is not an essential upgrade, but I would like to make a new leadscrew with a reduced pitch. The stock pitch is 3mm and I find it a bit coarse to work with for the small diameter parts I usually make. I think 2mm would be much better.

This proved to be a bit difficult because the part was so long. To stop it flexing under cutting load I had to use the lathes follower rest. I have never used a follower rest, so this will be a bit of a learning exercise.

I also need to make a new leadscrew nut, which I will make from a proper bearing bronze, which will be an improvement from the stock nut, which is made from brass.

I will also add the button oilers and oil channel to the underside of the cross slide.
