Repairing TWO Asus Motherboards with Corrupted BIOS - BIOS Chip Replacement Guide
This is a great example where a dual BIOS feature on a motherboard would be very handy, or just BIOS Flashback utility if it was present on the original Asus Crosshair V Formula. I accidentally bricked both of my Crosshair 5 Formulas back when I was constantly swapping between newest Vishera CPU models like FX-8350, 8370 and so on, and some of those old AMD Phenom Dual Cores like Phenom II X2 555. The newest Vishera models require the newest BIOS version (1703) for this motherboard, and the old Phenoms work the best with an older revision like the 1102.
As the BIOS got corrupted and there was no BIOS Flashback utility, or Dual BIOS to fix the issue, the motherboards became in bricked state, and the only way to fix them is to purchase a separate new BIOS chip with newest BIOS version already programmed in the chip itself. They are easily available on sites like eBay, so I bought two of these BIOS chips with the newest 1703 version already programmed into those. Thanks to my friend Aleksi (someoldfart on HWBOT) for lending me the FX-8150 for confirming the boards.
The BIOS chips are relatively easy to install even without any tool, just make sure they are placed in the correct way and you are good to go. As you can see on the video, both of the motherboards post relatively easy with the new BIOS chip installed.
