Pregnancy Induced Hypertension -

Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) is a significant condition characterized by elevated blood pressure during pregnancy, manifesting as gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, and eclampsia.
This condition typically arises after 20 weeks of gestation and can pose serious risks to both the mother and the baby. PIH is marked by hypertension, proteinuria, and signs of organ dysfunction.
The pathophysiology involves abnormal placental development, endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, and oxidative stress.
Risk factors include first-time pregnancy, multiple gestations, obesity, advanced maternal age, and pre-existing conditions like hypertension and diabetes. Clinically, it presents with high blood pressure, proteinuria, edema, severe headaches, and visual disturbances. Management involves close monitoring, antihypertensive medications, magnesium sulfate for seizure prevention, and timely delivery. Understanding and promptly addressing PIH is crucial to prevent complications like HELLP syndrome, renal failure, and fetal growth restriction. 🌸👶💓
