Despite the fact that less than four months have passed since the announcement of the iPhone 12 series, the next generation is already actively discussed on the Web. If we follow the logic, we can assume that the new line of Apple smartphones, which will be released this year, will be called the iPhone 13. But today, the Chinese media reported that Apple may return to the old nomenclature.
According to sources, Apple has chosen an unexpected name for the next generation iPhone. The iPhone 12 series will be replaced by the iPhone 12s. And, as was the case with its predecessors, the lineup will include four models. In fact, they will be slightly updated versions of the current iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Smartphones will retain the previous design, but the body will become a little thicker, and the cutout above the screen or the so-called "monobrow", on the contrary, will be thinner. And the image refresh rate will be increased to 120 Hz with automatic adjustment from 1 to 120 Hz. The screen will be made using Samsung LTPO technology.
The iPhone 12s series will be based on the new Apple A15 processor. Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC will be engaged in its production using a 5-nanometer technological process of the second generation. The use of an updated technical process means not only a noticeable increase in performance, but also an increase in energy efficiency, which will have a positive effect on the battery life of the new iPhones.
As expected, the official premiere of the iPhone 12s will take place in September this year, unless, of course, Apple has to change plans, like last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The cost of the new iPhones, according to sources, will remain at the level of the current generation.

According to a new note by authoritative analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will use the same lenses in the iPhone 13 series as the current flagships. It is assumed that we will see serious innovations in this direction only in the iPhone in 2022.
Today's note from Kuo focuses on the price war between iPhone optics vendors. The analyst says Genius Electronic Optical, which is heavily dependent on Apple, is in a very precarious position. Its main competitor, Largan, is willing to cut prices for its products, which, combined with the introduction of Sunny Optical optics into the iPhone supply chain, will deal a serious blow to the company. Kuo points out that due to the fact that Apple does not plan to use new optics in the 2021 iPhone, the problems of Genius Electronic Optical will last for a year.
