When we are born, all of our teeth are hidden in our face!
Embedded in the jaw bones, very tightly packed in place!
Baby teeth maintain our jaw length and create a pathway
So when ready our adult teeth erupt in the correct way!
All teeth are made of three main parts - the crown, the neck and root!
With four main dental tissues that form and protect each tooth!
For every tooth inside your mouth, you only see the crown!
It’s covered in enamel to ensure teeth don’t breakdown!
The neck, or dental cervix, sits between the crown and root!
Here cementum and enamel meet! This line divides the tooth!
Each tooth must have at least one root to anchor it in place!
Each inserts into a socket in the jawbones of your face!
Hidden by your gingiva, embedded in the bone,
Cementum helps hold each tooth in place, but just in the root zone!
Dentin forms the tooth shape and its structure too!
These tubules work to absorb excess forces when you chew!
Cementum, dentin, enamel together make a shell!
Forming a pulp chamber, and root canals as well!
Pulp lays at the center - it nourishes the tooth!
Housing nerves and blood vessels that enter through the root!
Now you know the three main parts and four dental tissues,
But what holds your teeth inside your mouth, allowing you to chew?
Periodontal ligament binds cementum to bone!
Within each socket, tissue fibers span through the gum zone!
