Lauralynn Taylor McKernan (CAPT), explains the new proposed NIOSH occupational exposure banding methodology and the impact it could have on the occupational safety and health field. Occupational exposure banding is a process of quickly and accurately assigning chemicals into specific categories (bands). These bands are assigned based on a chemical’s potency and the adverse health effects associated with exposure to the chemical, and provide guidance accordingly regarding recommended exposure ranges to prevent these adverse effects.
