Actor maps are a type of system map designed to reveal the network of people and organizations within a given system and how they are interrelated. The aim is to gain a deeper understanding of the stakeholder’s values, models, incentives and the power dynamics in the system. With actor mapping, we are asking who are the individuals or organizations that have an influence in determining the pattern and outcomes of the system and who are influenced by it. This set of video tutorials is designed to help you get started with actor mapping as a key dimension to a systems innovation initiative.
During the course, we will focus on building maps by first understanding the actors in the system and then using network analysis to understand the network of relations between them. Finally, we work to order the map according to the influence of the actors and their degree of receptiveness to the change initiative.
