How wound stitches really work
When you get stitches, the needle and thread pull your skin together, closing the wound tightly. This helps prevent infection by keeping bacteria out.
The wound may become inflamed, which is a normal part of healing. Inflammation brings cells that start repairing the tissue. These cells turn into new tissue and repair the wound.
Some stitches even dissolve on their own, so you don’t have to go back to the doctor! They hold your skin in place, allowing it to heal naturally.
