Timelines or the timeline panel is where you create the video - where it takes shape. You can drag clips and assets into the timeline or work flow creating multiple layers or work which combine or "nest" together in a sequence to become your final film edit.

Learning about the timeline and workflow in Adobe Premiere is the main focus of our tutorial video and we are going to go through the two editing camera, the timeline tools and shortcuts, the sequences, sub-sequences and nesting, the stringout to assembly workflow, as well as the layer and track toggling.

In this chapter about dealing and editing with Adobe Premiere Pro, we are going to go through the timeline, some keywords' shortcuts and the workflow for short film editing. Timeline and workflow are where the video is being created, you can drag different assets and create your film on that timeline which is all about the film you are creating.

In order to help you make everything easier and a lot quicker, and help those beginners who are still new to Adobe Premiere to create and edit their films, we have brought those simple steps to follow to drag the assets that you want, edit them and make sure that your timeline is moving in the same flow you want. We managed to give you the tips to add two different scenes and see them if you are taking shots from two different cameras, which does not happen in all the cases but some people need it at specific times.

There are some keyboard shortcuts on how to use the timeline a bit better and also there are some different settings which you can use such as the type tool, the hand tool, the pen tool, slip tool, razor, track tool and the selecting tool. There are those shortcuts which are handy when you are editing and going to trim your film. One of the examples is hitting "c" or go over to the razor tool, that's how you are going to create cuts and that's when you could simply choose where you are going to place the first cut point and the second. Another shortcut is the "V" which is the selection tool that allows you to go anywhere and click where you want; if you clicked two different parts then hold and shift, you could then grab this scene and go to the other timeline or sequence to start building your film. If you want to group the footage, you could simply click on the parts that you want then right click and choose "group" which will also help you to take the whole click scene to your new sequence.

There are different other things that you could do as a shortcut in order to edit or create your film with Adobe Premiere. One of the other things to know about the timeline to speed your life up is marking in and marking out specific parts by just right clicking on the timeline, you could also show the audio time units in order to show more precise, you could also go to the next marker if you have that marker in, etc. If you have a long timeline and you want to go to the next marker, you will just right click and choose "take me to the next marker" and as simple as that you will be there.

When you are editing your film with Adobe Premiere, you actually get different options when you right click on the timeline, you get the speed/duration, the label and your ability to change it and this will change the color of the duration on the timeline, there is also the frame hold options which helps you to freeze a frame, there is also the time interpolation which is good for the picture when there is a blur, a lot of lines, etc.

If you want to create a sub-clip with Adobe Premiere, you should first think of the clip that you want to create that sub-clip from then right click on it and choose "make sub-clip" and give it the name that you want, and that's when you will find it popped up as a separate shot with the other ones which you are already creating your film from - on the left side of the program screen.

Adding to the different things that you could add while you are creating your film is the adjustment layer, not all those using Adobe Premiere tend to use it, but it could actually be very useful. If you want to preset color correction to go over a certain amount of space, you can add it to your adjustment layer instead, and this will easily help you because you can just move it over the space that you want to color correction to be done to and it will just work like magic.

Understanding the timeline and workflow of Adobe Premiere Pro is just part of the whole package because there are still other things to be mentioned, such as knowing more about the transitions, titles and effects (   • Transitions, Titles and Effects - Ado...  , the layouts and workflow (   • Layouts & Workflow Adobe Tutorial - A...  ), the color grading and masking (   • Colour Grading & Masking Tutorial for...  ) and lots of other tutorials as well.
